Hi Dasler, yes to all of the above! Most of it can be configured in the app, but you can also do more advanced things with scripts.

Thanks!!

Does the log say the event is running multiple times? I'm not aware of anything that would cause this other than the device itself sending spurious messages, but I've never seen an INSTEON device do that...

Also just to confirm you are using the same text email address in both sensor's events?

Seeing these in the error log, and as well the "Climate" tab is not showing the weather.

OK, this is an odd one... of course it seems that's what I specialize in! Whaaaaa?
I had an Insteon door/window sensor rigged onto my garage door and set to send me a text when it was opened. All good, except the rigged instal was kludgy-looking and at times would get knocked by the sectional door if the wind was shifting it while opening...

Enter rig #2, quite a bit more elegant and functional, this version uses the Insteon hidden door sensor (in a creative way) to sense the last 4" of travel closed. I renamed and repurposed the old sensor and set the new one to send the text. now when the door is opened I get 10-20 repeat texts within seconds! Same when closed (a second event). The old sensor, still only sends one text (to be later installed on the mailbox).

The logs show no repeat activity, and the installation is not registering any bouncing of the switch contacts so what is up?

Hi, I am super interested in CastleOS as I like that it could use kinect for voice control.

I was just wondering could it do scenes likes theses

-If the garage door is open past a specific time it would sound a small alert, push, text, voice etc - bottom line alert me.

-If the temperature outside is warmer than the temperature inside and the AC heater is on, alert me and ask if I want to change the setting to Cold. vice versa.

-When someone is at the front door alert me send a text message with an attached picture of the person at the door with a link to turn on or off the light and to lock or unlock the door.

-Turn light on after I enter the house but only if is dark, not every time you open the door.

also, can it know there have been no movement inside the house using the motion sensor then it automatically know I am arriving, turning the inside light after the front door is opened, without waiting for the motion sensor to pick up movement inside the house.

- and after I am in the house let say I would head back to the car really quick to pick something, to turn the outside light after the main door open as it now know I am heading out because of the motion sensor acknowledge of movement inside the house prior to me opening the front door and is dark. light on for a specific time.

-Option to have the system talk after a door is open, with the name of the door, or after a light turn on, motion sensor trigger, using a SONOS speaker or similar.

Thanks.

Chris, here would be a recommendation for Global Cache....much like a virtual device, could add a text box that allows the user to paste in a GC command for turning a device on and another text box for turning it off. For IR user could paste "sendir,2:3,0,37000,1,1,10,68.....\r", for IPCC, could paste: "setstate,1:1,1\r". CastleOS would simply socket send the command. If CastleOS wants to parse the response, that may be tricky other than just log the response.

Hi Black Forest, sorry for the confusion. We're currently working on implementing a global GlobalCache implementation, so scripts wouldn't be necessary except for IR commands (for now). This would allow you to control the device like you are looking for. It's still possible to do with the script, but we are trying to simply that so you don't need to know how to script. Should be complete next week, and then I'll let you know when you can try it out.

Thanks!!

Please don't forget to include a timer! I need to say, "computer forward" and have the relay activate for only one(1) second and then open again.

I thought there might be a direct way to do it, but I was thinking of something else. Instead we're building a proper interface to the IP2CC. In the next few days I'll have something for you to test!

Chris, you mentioned I might try to set up a virtual device to control my Global Cache IP2CC. Can I use the IP address as the URL? Is there any documentation or video on setting up a virtual device?

Can I invest in CastleOS long-term?

After years of waiting I am finally ready to retrofit my soon-to-be new home with super-nerd level automation! Having let my knowledge of the industry fall to the wayside for almost a decade, I have spent the better part of this week catching up to the latest developments and searching for a solution that will fit my needs. I have gone from entertaining an Insteon-based setup to Universal Devices and now to my latest discovery, CastleOS.

I am intrigued by this option because of the claim of a seemingly endless and increasing list of compatibility with competing technologies and protocols, not to mention advanced customizability, community support and the promise of future development. My problem is simply with the long-term sustainability of the product.

I am a Microsoft ecosystem loyalist and will be to the bitter end. As such, I do not have a lot of options for home automation without defecting to Android/Amazon or iOS (perish the thought!). With CastleOS's HTML5 user interface offering universal compatibility to just about any OS, it is on the short list of solutions that will work for me.

I am ready at once to start buying the products that will make this dream a reality but before I do, I have concerns that after purchasing hundreds of dollars worth of equipment I will find they simply cannot function, much less cooperate under the one-roof solution CastleOS purports to provide. As it is, there appears to be something of a gap between the latest technology and what is confirmed compatible with this software. For example, does it work with the Ecobee3 2nd gen thermostat (I only see 1st Gen) and what about my Xbox One Kinect (v2)? I am not interested in buying obsolete technology just to get this solution to work, and I would hope future technology will be incorporated through continued development of the platform.

I am encouraged by the founder, Chris Cicchitelli's, active contributions to the community here in the forums and the latest version of the software being published in March of 2017. Given the opportunity to try the software for free, it's a no-brainer that is what I will do. What it comes down to, though, are the fans. Much like my love for Windows 10 devices (particularly phones), I am in a very small camp of loyalists who recognize the value of innovation even if it doesn't appeal to the masses. All I want to know is, will I love CastleOS and for how long can I count on it in the years to come?

Thank you so much for reading! I am excited to hear what you may have to say.

A related question, I have a much larger script that I tried to run under CastleOS and it too shows up as errors in the error log, but about the only indication I get is a compile error. I developed the script on a different machine with Visual studio 2017 and it works. So I'm thinking there may be a diffferent compiler and maybe different .NET Framework. What version C# compiler and .NET Framework does CastleOS use for running scripts?

The script itself can't necessarily use everything in .NET. Can you post it so I can see what might be in conflict? Or send it to me privately?

The error is "error CS0433: The imported type `System.Net.HttpWebRequest' is defined multiple times".
This is a type I use in my script.

The directives in my script are:

using System;
using System.Text;
using System.Text.RegularExpressions;
using System.IO;
using System.Net;
using System.Net.Sockets;
using System.Diagnostics;
using System.Threading;

I commented out //using System.Net.Sockets and //using System.Net and the error still did not go away.

I added the directive using CastleOS_API. The error log says it can't find it, asking if I'm missing an assembly directive. Does this mean I need to add the CastleOS_API.dll somewhere and if so, where would I put it?

CastleOS_API is a class, not a namespace, so you can't list it like that. But I realized the issue with the method that it couldn't find is that it changed to LogEventToDatabase. I'll update the demo scripts accordingly...
