Hi It seems that the Microsoft Kinects V1 and V2 are no longer available. The V2 at Amazon however was $399.00 (very expensive) used and sold by a third party. So I am not sure what would be used with the hub for voice control. Also can you connect a monitor and mouse to the hub for easier access for setting up scripts and such or can you remotely connect using a browser? Thanks Gary

Hey Gary! The Kinect v1 is discontinued, but widely available on the secondary market. The Kinect v2 is still available, you need the Kinect for Xbox One along with the Kinect for Windows adapter cable. The did away with the dedicated Kinect for Windows unit to simply their supply chain, so now the same Kinect works on both PCs and Xbox One. Yes, you can connect a monitor and mouse/keyboard like a regular computer. It has built in full size HDMI and DisplayPort ports. You will also be able to remotely connect, but we haven't formally announced that "secret" feature yet Thanks!

I have a Kinect one with Windows adapter plugged into CastleHub. Now what? Are there drivers or software to install? If so, how is software installed on the Hub?

Hey, If you go to the download screen here there are instructions on how to set up kinects. You need to click the icon on the desktop to open the program and then follow the steps listed in the how to set up kinects. Chris

Thanks for quick reply, Chris. I guess I have to hook up a monitor and keyboard to the hub?

Hey yeah, I think it's best to do that. At least for the initial set up. Make sure you set up a new user name and password in cos and also create a group. You'll need to do both before you set up the kinects.

Ok. I went through the setup, but still no luck. The light on the adapter for the Kinect is white, so I assume it is ok. I bought both the adapter and the Kinect directly from Microsoft, They are brand new. When I go to the multi-zone area of the setup, it says "Kinects detected: 0". There is no response when speaking to the Kinect.
Also, when I re-do the Kinect setup, it does not remember any info even though it has "successfully saved" it earlier.
I have restarted the Core service, the Kinect service, and the entire computer.

Hey, I think I read earlier you have a v1? That would be good because I don't think the v2 is supported yet. I have a v1 connected to mine although I own a v2 I haven't tried it yet. Do you have your Kinect plugged into one of the blue 3.0 usb on the hub? Also you need to have speakers hooked up to the headphone jack, like computer speakers or even headphones.

The box says Xbox One. It does not say anything about v1 or v2. I am plugged into USB 3 with nothing else plugged into that Bus. I am using headphones which are working for other windows sounds.

Hi William, Xbox One is a v2. Kinect v2 is not supported (not yet anyway).

Very frustrating! The Kinect V2 is listed under "Compatible Devices" on main page! That must be problem, though. Any idea on when it will be made compatible?

Just a tiny bit longer..

Ok guys! I got a Kinect 360, which I assume is a V1. I then got a different windows adapter cable. Now when I use the Kinect Configuration program, the Kinect is detected. However, no commands are recognized. I set the threshold down to 0.1 hoping to get some false positives. Twice I heard a weather report, but that is it. On the CastleHub, do I have to install any voice recognition programs for the Kinect? The SDK 1.8 came already on the Hub. I also have SDK 2.0 installed for the V2, but I do not think this is a conflict. To summarize: the Kinect seems to be working, the multi zone section shows 1 Kinect detected, but the CastleOS does not seem to be "listening".

Sounds like it's not talking to the cos core. Didn't you set up a user name and password? Have you set up a group and a device in cos? Then in the Kinect configure program use your user name and password and select the group you set up.

Thanks Chris. Yes, I set up new username, password and group. In the configure program it says "verified and saved" Whe I enter name and password. I can then select group for master lights command. When I close and re-open the configure program, the username is blank, but I understand this is a security feature. In the settings of CastleOS if I close and reset Kinect service, I can hear the sound from the Kinect turn on and off.

Hey William, did you get this resolved? Also, if you install the version of CastleOS currently available for download on the CastleHUB (it's a manual install for now but will be pushed to the CastleHUB later), it includes a new option to configure the Kinect from the main CastleOS app settings screen. If there is something wrong with your connection, that will probably solve it. If it doesn't, let us know and we can schedule an immediate remote troubleshooting session.
Thanks, Chris

Anytime after 2pm Eastern. As of yesterday, CastleOS will no longer open on Hub. Can you remote in with another program since I can't open CastleOS?. I can access internet from Hub.
