Hi Chris, Im looking at adding Z-Wave devices like the Yale doe locks for that I have purchased the Aeotec Z-stick series 2 and need steps to add this Z-wave adapter to my Castle OS.
Im sure other people would be able to use this, if you could please provide the steps I would be forever grateful.
Regards,
Ari.

I am just getting into the home automation. I am glad i found CastleOS. I was thinking about using this in several rooms/areas (around 9). I was wondering if I could a small Intel NUC PC in the rooms/areas I need them in and connect them to a master server running Castle OS. The smaller PC could run the Kinect and a speaker. Is this possible and practical.

Absolutely, in fact, that is the recommended method! You can then use the NUCs for other uses as well, such as music playback in each zone, as a cablebox with a CableCard tuner, etc. Also, the i5 NUC supports two Kinects at the same time.

Thanks,
Chris

So could I use Wifi to connect the NUC's to the central NUC running Castle OS or how would you recommend contacting the computer systems together? Would it lag?

Nope WiFi is perfect smile That's how I have my own condo set up: a central server running the Core Service, and NUCs running the Kinect Service connecting back over the network.

Most people mount it at hip to eye level. Ceiling would work too though. It blends in pretty easily (even though it seems like it shouldn't), you'll find plenty of places to hid it smile

Yes, both Kinects work equally well (though you may need to be the power adapters separately on some of the auctions, no biggie it's only $7.50 on Amazon).

For Mac and Linux users who run CastleOS in a VM, only the Kinect for Windows works from the VM. But with the NUC, both work equally.

Hi Chris, I would like to move the Core Services (including all the setup work I have done... devices, groups, scenes... to the same PC that is running my Kinect. I see an entry on how to move the license key, but don't see how to move the rest of the settings. This would be a great "how to" article. Thanks!

Just copy the Configuration.xml and log.sdf files to the new computer, overwriting the ones that are there, and restart. That's it!

Where can I get a How to Guide for your CastleOS software? I'd like to try it but I want to see documentation on it BEFORE I spend $199 for a piece of software that is apparently still in development.

Hey Randy, we're in the process of updating all of the documentation. We just launched the new website design last week, and will be adding more how-to's and other content in the coming week.

Thanks!

Nope, it's only required if you're using INSTEON.

Hi Tim, very sorry for the confusion! The credentials you use to log in to CastleOS.com are only for the website. For security and privacy reasons, your username and password to the CastleOS system in your home is not stored in our cloud servers. By default, you can log in with the username "admin" and the password "password1234", then change the admin password as well as add other users.
More setup instructions are here: http://www.castleos.com/forum/topic33-how-to-setup-the-core-service.aspx

Thanks!

I've just downloaded the software, but I'm having difficulty getting it to work with my insteon USB dongle. What am I not doing or doing wrong?

Thanks

Hey Gino, what's it doing? The first thing I'd double check is that you don't have another home automation software installed trying to use the USB adapter, as it only allows one connection at a time. If you have HouseLinc or something else running please shut that down completely. You'll know when CastleOS is successfully connected to the PLM because it will show the PLM ID in the Insteon Settings of the CastleOS app.

Thanks!
