I have just added Amazon Echo's to two rooms in my home and have never used the CastleOS due to it not supporting Microsoft Kinect Version 2. I’m blown away at how easy it was to add the Amazon Echo and sync it with my Insteon devices. No joke, within 10 minutes the Amazon Echo was connected to my Wi-Fi, located all my Insteon devices (12 lights,1 thermostat, 1 motion sensor) and was ready to go. What I am most happy about is the Amazon Echo always recognizes my commands. Literally 9 out of 10 commands is followed promptly and most often the one it misses I incorrectly phrased.

Knowing my intention of only controlling the mentioned Insteon devices are there any pros to still pondering CastleOS? My primary reason for asking is due to all the time and money I invested into purchasing devices to run CastleOS (Microsoft Kinect Version 2, Microsoft Kinect Version 2 USB connector, USB expansion card for PC, customizing PC to support being powered on 24/7). A great deal of time and money possibly tossed down the drain.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I am in the same boat. Purchased the Castle Hub, Kinect 2 but find myself using Amazon Echo for everything. Was thinking of trying to sell the Hub but still holding out.

I am currently using the Echo for voice control, and Castle OS for conditional logic/event control, and the two are working very well together. I have all Insteon devices, and one echo which provides coverage to my living room, Kitchen, Dining room, and loft (we have a very large and open plan house). I am using the Insteon Hub 2245 model, with both CastleOS and the echo talking to it, and it keeps Castle OS updated on device status changes very well. so to answer your question, I would still consider CastleOS to be valuable from a Conditional Logic/Control standpoint, becasue the echo has no ability for control logic.

hope this helps.

Thanks Chris! Like he said, the echo is just a voice remote control, it doesn't do automation. That said, we haven't had a plugin for it yet since we're a local controller and it only had a cloud API. But I recently learned they have something in the works to address that. We should be able to offer a proper integration once they release the update in a few months.

Thanks,
Chris
